Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Norway Mr. Adil Tursunov paid a working visit to Narvik to meet with Deputy Mayor of Narvik Mr. Rune Østergren, Director of the Port of Narvik (Narvik Havn KF) Mr. Børge Edvardsen Klingan and representatives of local companies.

At the meeting with Deputy Mayor of Narvik Mr. Rune Østergren the Ambassador informed about the political reforms in Kazakhstan on the initiative of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and economic potential of our country. They also discussed prospects for interregional cooperation between Kazakhstan and Norway and establishment of the Kazakhstan Honorary Consul’s office in this city.

Means of enhancing cooperation in the field of transport and logistics were discussed with the Director of the Port Mr. Klingan. The parties noted that there has been a growth of mutual trade, including import of Norwegian fish products to our country and export of Kazakhstan wheat, energy and other products. In this context, they emphasized the importance of further development of cargo transportation between the Port of Narvik and Kazakhstan through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (#TMTM).

Mr. Adil Tursunov also met with the management of Odd Lundberg AS to discuss matters of increasing export of Norwegian salmon to Kazakhstan. He also had a discussion with management of the Norwegian railway company Bane NOR to consider ways of development of railway routes with a view to TMTM.

In general, the visit showed a certain interest of local authorities and companies in mutual cooperation for development of trade relations, transport and logistics routes with Kazakhstan. The parties agreed to intensify interregional cooperation in a full range of bilateral relations, with an emphasis on joint activities in the field of trade, investment, transport and logistics.
